At preschool puppies are taught how to socialise nicely with people and other puppies, accept handling, and are introduced to obedience training by learning how to sit, drop, settle, stay and come.  We also provide detailed information and guidance on issues including toilet training and bite inhibition. Time and puppy-ability permitting, we also teach basic tricks like roll-over and games to play with children such as find me and tunnel-blankie.

Owners will be given a handbook which outlines homework for each class, as well as providing information on feeding, grooming, exercising, appropriate toys, basic first aid kit provisions, and legal obligations of dog owners.

You will also receive a training clicker to keep to help your puppy learn up to 40% faster than using other training methods.

Puppy preschool costs $100 per puppy.  A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your pup's place in preschool.

Preschool classes are limited to 6 puppies per group (except at Mulgoa).  Family members over 16 are welcome to participate in classes.  Younger children are welcome to attend but we ask that an adult is the primary handler of the puppy and undertakes all training during class to ensure the pup gets the most out of each class.
Puppies may start a week late, I give you a quick catch up before class and then you may come to the first class of next month's course!  This is to ensure we take advantage of your pup's 'sensitive period' for positive socialisation experiences.

People often ask when a pup may start preschool - the answer is as early as 7 weeks old, so long as your pup has had at least their first vaccination 7 days before they start classes.  All of Cheeky Pup's classes are held at vet clinics in areas that are not accessible to the public or indoors in areas that are easily and regularly cleaned to prevent the transmission of viruses and bacteria to  animals.  The Australian Veterinary Association encourages people to start socialising and training pups as soon as possible, the reasons for this are explained by the following quote:

'...It is vitally important to socialise puppies before the age of 14-16 weeks, in order to best develop well-socialised, friendly animals [...]The best recommendation for socialisation but keeping a low risk exposure to Canine Parvovirus is to ensure all puppy boosters are given on time, and to take pups to puppy preschool where they can be socialised in a friendly, disease free environment until they mature enough to have mounted a strong immune response to the vaccination.  Puppy preschool can guarantee a controlled, vaccinated population in contact with the puppy, and also an environment that has been appropriated disinfected...' Eradication of Parvovirus - an attainable dream? Mark Kelman BSc BVMS CMAVA, The Veterinarian (February 2010) p40
